Torah For Our Times: Abortion and Reproductive Justice with Rabbi Emily Langowitz, Rabbi Stephen Kahn, and Rabbi Sara Mason-Barkin Wednesday, May 11th at 7 PM On zoom and in-person at Congregation Beth Israel On Monday, May 2nd, we awoke to the news that the Supreme Court of the United States voted to strike down the landmark Roe v. Wade decision. According to an initial draft majority opinion (later confirmed as authentic by Chief Justice John Roberts), the opinion was obtained and distributed by POLITICO. Along with the many seismic shifts of the world around us these past months, many of us are seeking perspectives and wisdom along with the support of our community, especially within our increasingly polarized society.   Congregation Beth Israel’s “Torah for our Times” series exists to address the immediate impact and long-term considerations of the issues of our day. As a Jewish community, we seek guidance from our sacred sources to help us navigate the challenging issues of our times. In this upcoming session, we will find that Jewish tradition has something to say about issues of personal authority, the right to agency and bodily autonomy along with the bioethical considerations of abortion.   Join Rabbi Mason-Barkin and Rabbi Kahn as we welcome Rabbi Emily Langowitz for a thoughtful and important conversation for a Jewish perspective on issues of choice, autonomy and abortion.   Rabbi Emily Langowitz is the author of “Abortion and Reproductive Justice” from the Social Justice Torah Commentary and currently serves as the Jewish Engagement and Learning Manager at the Union for Reform Judaism.
