Since 1989 Martha Arevalo has served as Congregation Beth Israel’s Kitchen Manager. For nearly three decades, she was a significant contributor to creating our Holy Community. Martha’s own family literally grown up at CBI; her children and grandchildren could be found throughout the kitchen and halls of our second building on Flower Street, and for these past 17+ years throughout our current building.
Martha was more than the woman who prepared delicious meals for countless Shabbat dinners, noshes, Kiddushes and Oneg Shabbats…she was an “institution” at CBI and I personally loved watching Martha working hard at all hours of day and night to make sure we were well fed and always given her precious hugs.
Just a few weeks ago, Martha decided to retire from her position at Congregation Beth Israel after 26 years on two campuses. Her last day with us was early in January and, while she left with little notice or fanfare, I know that she and her family have left an indelible mark on our community. We are grateful for Martha’s years of service, dedication and loyalty to our Holy Congregation and I know you join me in sharing how deeply we will miss Martha in the years to come.
So, let me simply say, “Thank You” to Martha for her love, kindness and consistent hard work.
